The purpose of this article is to enlighten you on what Mailchimp has, and does not have. That way, you will know whether to move to an alternative.

Is Mailchimp Bad?

Unlike many other comparative reviews on the internet, I will not present Mailchimp as a ‘Dark Thanos' that is ‘too popular' or that has alternatives that are far better.

This is a pure review void of sentiments, as I will be showing you other email marketing solutions that you might not know, or really know.

At the same time, the truth is that because of the recent changes in Mailchimp pricing, plus the continuous decline in their quality of service, many users are looking to switch from Mailchimp.

1. Revue : Best for Editorial Newletters

Revue is up first!

If you think that Mailchimp can provide it all but is more than a little pricey, then Revue has your back! I personally use Revue to send Hacks and Secrets about WordPress to WordPress users from all over the world, so this review would be plainly based on what I have experienced so far.

Earlier in January, Twitter acquired Revue, a service that makes it free and easy for anyone to start and publish editorial newsletters.

Revue gives all types of writers a way to monetize their audience – whether it’s through the one they built at a publication, their website, on Twitter, or elsewhere- and that is a bonus if you are willing to give value to an ever-hungry audience in exchange for some bucks.

If you are a content creator, you can continue to share your short-form content on Twitter, leading to your long-form content on Revue, which can then be discussed in short-form back on Twitter—all in a nice, smooth interface.

Additionally, Twitter and Revue offer content creators the possibility of being paid for their content. So, it is a great platform that is not-so-popular yet, but is making a lot of sense.

Revue Free Features:
  • A beautiful profile page
  • Import, update, view or delete subscribers
  • Accurate Engagement Insights
  • Scheduling
Revue Pricing

Talking about money, Revue offers a free forever plan for 1 user with up to 200 subscribers. If you need more, there’s a $5/month Pro plan for 1 user with up to 1,500 subscribers, custom logo, custom colors, and domain.
A Team plan for unlimited users with up to 10,000 subscribers, custom colors, custom logo, and domain is available for $25/month.

I do not recommend that you use Revue as your main email marketing services- because Revue does not have autoresponders. But, you can use it for a small list, alongside your main email marketing plan.

2. Hubspot: Good for full CRM

According to their website, “HubSpot is a complete CRM platform with all the tools you need to grow better — whether you want to increase leads, accelerate sales, streamline customer service, or build a powerful website.”

Actually, Mailchimp offers more focused email marketing functions, while HubSpot offers a wider range of digital marketing tools for seamless collaboration. If you’re only looking for email marketing basics and don’t want to pay for tools you’ll never use, HubSpot may be a worthwhile consideration.

Hubspot Free Features:
  • Beautiful email templates
  • Personalized emails
  • Landing Pages
  • Live chat
  • Traffic and Conversion analytics

While Hubspot may not be the cheapest option, the advanced features and integrations make HubSpot a powerful alternative to Mailchimp that can support your entire marketing strategy, well beyond email marketing.

3. ActiveCampaign: Better email automation

In terms of email sequences automation, ActiveCampaign is unbeatable.

Whether you want to tag users based on behavior, A/B tests or create complex timed automations, they have you covered.

ActiveCampaign even has interesting features such as their new “site messages” which lets you create personalised content on your website when users arrive there from your emails.

List management, which Mailchimp isn’t great at, is also a strong suit. Finally, they also end up cheaper than Mailchimp and the customer support is excellent. The only disadvantage is that, ActiveCampaign does not have a free plan.

ActiveCampaign's plans start from $9/month.

4. MailerLite: Same quality, but cheaper

MailerLite comes at number four on our list, and its rich set of features could be just the help your SME needed to grow and thrive.

This MailerLite is actually one of the easiest email marketing platforms on the planet, has tons of great templates, top of the line customer support, and all the tools you would need to run an effective email marketing campaign.mailerlite mailchimp alternative | Email marketing

Mailerlite actually has all the classic integrations, email automation tools, and anything one would expect from their email marketing software.

Want to have a separate unsubscribe page? There is a builder for that.

The free plan, which is limited to 1000 subscribers, lets you use most features. That includes a landing page editor and better automation than Mailchimp’s.

Their paying plans are also significantly cheaper, making them a great choice for small businesses on a tight marketing budget.

Another unknown bonus is that Mailerlite offers 8 languages and support in 5 of them. It is a great free Mailchimp alternative.

5. Sendiblue: Better automation and cheaper

SendInBlue, with its simple and straightforward UI, seems to be a pretty good choice in the field of MailChimp competitors.

They even have a page dedicated to show you how they beat Mailchimp. Go to the page now.

Of course, SendinBlue has options for people who want to ramp up their SMS marketing efforts, would like more live chat options, or those who want to get serious about their email marketing efforts.

There are tons of other features to choose from.

SendinBlue created great segmentation and email marketing features that will allow you to tailor your message exactly to the people  you want.

There are tons of templates that you can choose from for transactional emails as well.

Just like I mentioned before, there is a free plan that covers some of the basic features and would be great for small businesses.

If you are a new marketer and 40.000 emails per month are enough, then prices start at $25 per month.

Conclusion

While MailChimp is regarded as a leader in the industry when it comes to automation and email marketing platforms (and I agree with this), it can get expensive pretty fast.

This is why brands are constantly looking for alternatives. We were too, and we will make the shift soon, ourselves.

Luckily, good MailChimp alternatives are not too hard to find, especially nowadays with such a plethora of options available, that are more affordable or, perhaps, carry more features.
