What Is Email Marketing?

Email marketing helps you connect with your audience to promote your brand and increase sales. You can do a lot of things with emails, like sell products, share news, share coupons, improve your cart abandonment rate, or tell a story.

If you do not know what Email Marketing is, you should read this well-detailed Email Marketing guide by Neil Patel.

Basically, email marketing is all about how you can successfully communicate with your customers via email, engage them and get useful leads on a regular basis.

I am writing this article assuming that you already understand Email Marketing. So let us look at Revue vs Mailchimp.

Mailchimp is very popular. Millions and millions of business owners and all kinds of people use Mailchimp globally. Revue, on the other hand, has a significantly smaller audience. But we all know that it is not by size, right? Let us take a look at these two tools so that you can make a decision on which one to use. Revue vs Mailchimp.

Mailchimp – What Have I Observed?

MailChimp is actually the first email marketing tool that will come to mind, obviously because they have an amazingly crazy marketing strategy put in place.

*Laughs*. Mailchimp is literally everywhere!

Even if you search for ‘Email marketing’ or ‘newsletter’, you will definitely see Mailchimp.

Mailchimp offers a free plan to send up to 10,000 emails a month to 2,000 subscribers.

This is a very good deal for personal users and small business owners, as there are many free features in this plan.

Mailchimp also has a free CRM. If you’re a small business owner looking for a ‘complete solution’, then this could be just what you’re looking for.

And that’s not all. Mailchimp also appears very attractive. Their design team is also very good.

Now to the reality, Is Mailchimp the winner (Should I spoil the review here)?

I will. The truth is that Mailchimp is excellent in its own ‘lane’. At the end of this article, you will discover which of these two tools is the best for you.

Mailchimp Features

  • A free plan that lets you have up to 2000 subscribers.
  • You can create your own templates for campaigns
  • Easily import or export users from other email marketing platforms
  • You can create signup forms that can even be embedded on your website
  • You can preview and test the email (send to your inbox only) before publishing.
  • A sticky Mailchimp branded footer for free accounts
  • Visually appealing reports
  • Pre-made email templates (many of them are paid).

Enough about Mailchimp for now. Let’s go to Revue!

Revue – What have I Observed?

If you’ve used MailChimp over a long period of time, you’ve seen the company put more and more focus on the marketing part of the email marketing equation. And while these things certainly matter to editorial publishers, they want to put out a great editorial product, too, and this shift gives the lingering feeling that the production part of the equation is getting pushed to the back burner.

I read this somewhere online and trust me, it is a fair statement.

While Mailchimp is a fantastic tool for Business owners, Revue is the perfect tool for publishers and writers.

Unlike the big arena of marketing-based email platforms that are available, the Founders of Revue decided from the beginning to put more emphasis on content creation and curation, and remove the hassles seen in starting and maintaining a personal newsletter that has links, images, and commentary.

Revue allows you to link your Revue account to RSS feeds, Medium, Twitter, Tumblr, and Pocket, and to easily drag ‘n’ drop content into the email newsletter compose window, a feature that helps you save an incredible amount of time. There’s also a browser extension and so many other awesome features that you will soon see on this article.

And, the compose tools are pretty simple (there’s no way I can skip this detail and be guiltless), comprising headings, images, free-form text, and links. That said, the sent emails are well-designed, more beautiful than Mailchimp’s default email template, and, again, without you having to do much, if any, of the heavy lifting. You also get access to your subscriber list, can schedule or send immediately, auto-share to social channels, and view open rates.

Revue Features

  • You can run a fully functional free account
  • You can monetize your email list
  • A very simple editor
  • You can change or switch the theme design of your templates
  • A beautiful signup form that can be displayed on your customizable profile link.
  • Beautiful analytics to show signup rates, open rates, and unsubscribe rates.
  • Easily embed links or media.

Revue vs Mailchimp – Final Conclusion

It is pretty easy to choose between these two tools. For example, I use Mailchimp to house my email subscribers from this website, and I use Revue to handle my WordPress community.

If you want to see how you can set up an account on Revue in the simplest way, read my guide on How to Set up a Revue Account.

They are different tools that are both wonderful in their respective places.

If you are a writer or publisher, you should be looking at Revue. Own a business or outreach, you should look at Revue.

If you are not satisfied yet, here is a list of Mailchimp alternatives.

I hope this article was helpful enough. Thank you for reading till this point. If you have questions or comments, you should leave a comment!

This is helpful, thanks. I think Revue is great if you just need a simple email marketing tool to share your content. Mailchimp has a lot of moving parts, from my perspective. Fortunately they both give you ownership of your email list so you can move to a different platform as you see fit. Thanks again!

Thank you for your comment, Tiffany. I appreciate and welcome you.
Yes I agree with you, Mailchimp is a little bit more complex than Revue, and that’s why I usually recommend Revue to people that are just starting out!
