How to Interrupt A Talkative Posted on June 6, 2024June 6, 2024 By Tomiwa Akanbi Have you ever been in a situation where someone won’t stop talking? It can be overwhelmingly annoying when someone starts behaving like a chatterbox and refuses to stop – especially when you are clearly not having any of it. Let’s talk about that today! #1. Hang Up Suddenly If the annoying conversation is happening over a phone call and the person doesn’t seem like he or she is ending soon, you can just end the conversation by hitting the red button on your phone’s screen. If I don’t owe someone anything and they randomly call me to rant, unless I am willingly giving them advice or listening to them because I know them or bear a responsibility towards them, the conversation will definitely not go beyond two minutes. via GIPHY If you are on the phone, hang up when you’re mid-sentence. Call them right back and take charge of the conversation. For example, ‘So I think the best thing is that you should just xxxxx. That reminds me,…’ Unless the person wants to intentionally waste your time, they will move on and get the vibe without it being obviously awkward. #2. Take an Excuse Sometimes, you can just slowly raise your finger to get their attention and slow or stop their cadence of talking and simply say, “Good, I’ve got to go. Thanks”. They will understand and get the memo that you have useful things to do, and they will be cool with it. This works most of the time, especially if the talkative is your age mate, and is not really close to you. Or you can just interrupt them with “I’m going to interrupt you.” #3. Do Something Weird Another way to stop a talkative is to do it in an absolute obvious way. You can simply: Hold a pen out. Make eye contact with them. Drop it. Look straight into their eyes as you squat, pick it up, and stand back up. If it does not work, maybe try spilling your coffee or get them occupied lol.
