Social Media Management: Manual Posting vs Automation! Posted on May 21, 2024May 21, 2024 By Tomiwa Akanbi Today, I will write about something all social media managers know too well: the juggling act of managing multiple social media platforms for brands. As a Digital Marketing expert with over seven years of experience, I get to wear many hats. On some days, I have to manage the social media of some brands- across different platforms. Sometimes, I have to craft compelling content that will land leads or sales. On other days, I run ads, and so on. You get the drift, right? I don’t want you to think what I do is just ‘Social Media management’. So back to the topic, it can be a bit stressful my way. But I just like the old-fashioned style that works. Now, don’t get me wrong, I totally get the appeal of using tools that can automatically blast your content across multiple platforms with just a few clicks. It’s convenient, time-saving, and can streamline your workflow. But after seven years in the game, I’ve come to realize that there’s something special about taking the manual route. Posting Content Manually When you manually post a piece of content on social media, you have the opportunity to inject a bit of personality and creativity into each post. You’re not just churning out content on autopilot; you’re actively engaging with your audience in real time. Whether it’s writing the perfect caption, choosing the right emojis, or responding to comments as they come in, there’s a certain level of authenticity that you just can’t achieve with automation. Plus, manual posting allows you to stay agile and responsive to current events and trends. Sure, you can schedule posts weeks in advance with automated tools, but what happens if something unexpected happens in the world that directly impacts your brand or industry? By being hands-on with your social media accounts, you can pivot quickly and tailor your content to fit the moment. You Get to Experiment! Another thing I love about manual posting is the opportunity for experimentation and optimization. When you’re posting in real time, you can see how your audience reacts to different types of content at different times of the day. Maybe that funny meme you posted on a whim performs way better than your carefully curated product showcase. Being able to adapt and refine your strategy on the fly is invaluable in the ever-evolving world of social media marketing. Social Media Scheduling Has Its Place Of course, I’m not saying that automation or scheduling doesn’t have its time and place. For larger brands with massive followings and multiple campaigns running simultaneously, scheduling posts in advance can be a lifesaver. But for me, there’s just something magical about the human touch that comes with manual posting. To be clear, I’m not knocking automation – it’s got its place, especially when you’re swamped with a lot of tasks. But if you’ve got the time and the creative spark, manual posting is where it’s at. It’s the difference between sending a mass-produced greeting card and writing a heartfelt note by hand. One gets a polite nod, the other gets a smile and a place on the fridge. So, to all the social media marketers out there, I say: embrace the chaos! Dive into each platform with confidence. Be unique, be creative, and most importantly, be you. Because at the end of the day, that’s what will make your brand stand out in the crowded social media space.
